What is the difference between a legal DNA test and a peace-of-mind DNA test?

A legal DNA test follows a strict chain-of-custody process, including identity verification and witnessed sample collection. Legal DNA test results may be used for court proceedings, child support, custody matters, birth certificate changes, and other legal purposes.

A peace-of-mind DNA test provides DNA relationship information for personal knowledge but does not follow the legal chain-of-custody requirements. Peace-of-mind results are not intended for use in court.

Non-invasive prenatal paternity testing can be performed as early as 9 weeks into pregnancy. Eligibility and timing are confirmed before scheduling.

The test typically uses a blood sample from the pregnant mother and a cheek-swab sample from the alleged father. The laboratory analyzes fetal DNA present in the mother’s bloodstream.

Results are generally available within 5–7 business days after all required samples are received by the laboratory. Timing may vary, and we will confirm the expected turnaround when you schedule.

Yes. The test is non-invasive and uses a maternal blood sample plus a cheek swab from the alleged father—no amniocentesis is required. Personal information and results are handled confidentially and released only to authorized parties.

Most DNA test results are available within 3–5 business days after the laboratory receives the samples. Turnaround times may vary depending on the type of relationship test being performed.

DNA paternity testing is highly accurate. When the tested man is the biological father, results typically show a probability of paternity of 99.9% or greater. When he is not the biological father, the test will exclude him as the biological father.

Yes. Legal DNA testing follows a documented chain-of-custody process and may be used for court proceedings, child support, custody matters, birth certificate changes, and other legal purposes. Peace-of-mind DNA test results are intended for personal knowledge and are not designed for court use.

A standard paternity test typically includes the alleged father and child. The mother is not required in most cases, although she may participate in a trio paternity test when appropriate.
